Walch Optics have a full workshop on site, where we service and repair photographic equipment, surveying instruments, and Micro and Histology machines.
In Tasmania we are relatively isolated from larger repair centres, so we at Walch Optics have had to develop specialised skills in servicing a wide variety of equipment. This is good news for our customers, because we can usually provide a more efficient and cost effective service on site, rather than having your equipment going to the mainland.

MEDICAL AND MICROSCOPY
In the Microscopy and Specimen preparation field, we have factory training in Leica Microsystems and Biosystems equipment such as Tissue processors, Autostainers, Embedding centres, Microtomes, Coverslippers, and a range of microscopes. We also work on other brands, as sometimes we can provide a more timely return to work for your instruments.
OTHER SERVICES
Equipment hire – Walch Optics hires out survey gear, film and slide scanning equipment, and photographic equipment. The photographic equipment we hire is dependant on what gear we have in the shop at the time, we don’t have a set range of gear so it’s probably best for you to email us to discuss the particulars.
Card recovery – Has your memory card corrupted? We have the technology and expertise to recover data from broken and corrupted cards. Not all data can be saved but our success rate is very good.
Sensor cleaning – Walch Optics provide a digital sensor cleaning service for DSLR sensors. Have you noticed little spots appearing on your photos? Sometimes with interchangeable lens cameras dirt finds it’s way into the camera and can land on the imaging sensor. This dirt is then sometimes visible on your images under certain conditions usually when photographing a plain colour with a smaller aperture. The good news is we can clean that off for you.
Video conversion – Walch Optics can convert or recover old video formats to digital for you. These include High 8, DV, Mini DV, VHS, we can also extract video from camcorders with built in hard drives.
Other repairs – We can also re-cell battery packs, fix or modify cables, repair light sources of almost any kind, fix compasses, tripods, scanners and printers etc, the list goes on. Please contact us if you have problems with your equipment, and we will happily advise how we can help.
